Biography: Calvin Sun was born in February, 1997 in California, US. He is 8 years old now and just finished his 2nd grade from a public elementary school in southern California.
He started to learn how to play Go when he was 6 years old. Although neither his parents plays Go, he has been just loving this game and enjoying it so much since the first time he laid his hands on.
After about 16 months learning, he participated in the first official
tournament, The 2004 US Go Congress/ US Open, in which he played in 1 kyu section and won the 2nd place and earned 1 dan rating from AGA. Two months later, he won the first place of 1 dan section from The Cotsen Cup held in Los Angeles. Right before his 8th birthday, in January of this year in San Jose, Calvin won the 2nd place of 2 dan section in The 2005 Jujo Cup, and became one of the 3 dan players of AGA.
Calvin also competed in The 12th Michael Redmond Cup IGS League Junior Division. This game was for players under 12 year-old to play in June 2005. Calvin beat all his opponents, as a result he was selected US representative to compete in an international tournament, the 5th Korean Life Insurance Cup Children Baduk Championship, which will be held in Seoul, Korea end of July 2005.
